![]() Chiawa Community Campsite Back to Basics Introduction There are fewer opportunities for those on more modest incomes to really enjoy the basic outdoors in Africa. Camping in Zambia is one way to get back to nature in a real sense and if you want a change from the daily routine, come and enjoy a camping experience in the Lower Zambezi. On the northern bank of the Zambezi river close to the main entrance of the Lower Zambezi National Park in Zambia, Chiawa Community Campsite is the ideal spot to forget the bustle of everyday life, enjoy a little sport fishing and experience the abundant wildlife in one of Zambia’s foremost National Parks. Designed with the self-sufficient camper in mind the campsite provides only the things you really need to enjoy a few quiet days in the bush. Facilities Facilities are minimal and campers are advised that they need to be self-sufficient in fuel, firewood and supplies. There are ablution blocks with showers and
toilets. Please note that the tap water is directly pumped from the
river and may not be suitable for drinking. How to get there From Lusaka take the Kafue Road south through Kafue and drive on to Chirundu. In Chirundu turn left for the road to the Kafue pontoon and follow the signs to the safari lodges and the National Park. Alternatively, take the more attractive Leopard's Hill Road from Lusaka and follow it down the escarpment to the Zambezi River and turn left toward the park. The road within the Game Management Area can be difficult to negotiate and high clearance 4x4 vehicles are necessary. You should allow at least three hours after crossing the pontoon to reach the campsite. The campsite is clearly signposted just over two kilometres before the Chongwe river crossing into the National Park. |
